Very cool stoner rock band with bluesy riffs and progressive twists. Bandcamp.
Plateau sounds like a melancholic folk-rock song written and recorded in the 1970s, but it’s a new song by the retro-rock band Psychic Hit from Oakland. You can listen to their Demo-EP on bandcamp which also includes less folky, more up-tempo songs reminiscent of early Heavy Metal bands.
Wow, a slow jazzy rocker with a trombone. Plus the Devil and a lot of blood. This is freaking good. “Enjoy. The Devil” is a new single. Check out Old Blood’s debut EP at bandcamp.
After watching Soap&Skin’s new video, Heal, I already feel healed. I’m really looking forward to October when her (Soap&Skin is basically a one-woman show) new album will be released.
Ancestors, outstanding post-metal with slow heavy riffs and pinkfloidy atmosphere. The band’s new album, Suspended in Reflections, will be released on August 24. Until then, you may want to follow up on their previous albums.
Like the band name and song title, the video and music are appropriately quirky and playful. Sloth & Turtle play some kind of uplifting math and post-rock and even manage to fittingly incorporate a cello. Their EP is available on Bandcamp as a name-your-price download.
Japanese movies, especially crime and pinky violence (ピンキー・バイオレンス) from the 60s and 70s, have made me appreciating Japanese jazz, enka, and kayōkyoku music. Although, I don’t think this was used in any movie, one of my favorite songs is Love Thief (恋泥棒) performed by Okumura Chiyo (奥村チヨ). Here is a rare music video which features the first 2 of the 3-minute song. Unfortunately, I don’t know the origin of this video nor if a complete version exists. But you can listen to a full audio version of the song here. Love Thief (恋泥棒) is part of the Love song trilogy. Listen to the other two songs: Love Slave (恋の奴隷) and Love Crazy (恋狂い).
