Los Bitchos – The Link is to die
Here is your new favorite cocktail recipe.
Serum 114 – Abgefucktes Leben
Nothing like some good old fashioned punk rock. This is far from being original, but it’s pure fun. “Abgefucktes Leben” means “(my) fucked up life”.
Hildegard von Blingin’
I don’t know when this happend. But apparently, Bardcore is a thing. If you search for bardcore or medieval cover on youtube, you find several artists convering modern songs in a medieval style.
To me, Hildegard von Blingin’ stands out in quality, execution, and discreet humor. Their name is a pun on Hildegard von Bingen.
Here are a few of their songs. Pumped up Kicks is currently my favorite one.
Haken – Invasion
Fantastic video. I love the concept and the twist at the end. The music is also captivating. Overall, a great audiovisual experience where everything fits together.
High Priestess – Casting The Circle
Quite a gloomy chanting ritual.
Zombi – Breaktrough & Conquer
There is going to be a new album by one of the best instrumental synth rock bands.
Pure Reason Revolution – Ghosts & Typhoons
After a long time, the British band Pure Reason Revolution is back with a new album. The band split up in 2011 and now only two of the original members remain. The new album is a fine example of modern progressive rock with fascinating multi-layered duets.
Brandt Brauer Frick – Masse
The music ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick combines electronic dance music with classical music. And the result is intriguing. This is a new video for the song Masse from their upcoming album Echo.
The video was filmed in the Zwentendorf Nuclear Power Plant in Austria which never went into service. The video concept is highly interesting. Each of the musicians was individually filmed in a different room resulting in ten videos for each single instrument. The band has put up an interactive website which allows you to switch between the instruments. I recommend to check this out.
Helge Schneider – Es gibt Reis
Helge Schneider is a famous German musician, multi-instrumentalist, comedian, author, and filmmaker. He’s most famous for his expressive improvisations both in music and comedy. His work is absurd, crude, and often pure nonsense.
This is the video for Es gibt Reis (with English subtitles) which is one of my favorite songs of Helge. It was released back in 1993 and it’s about inviting a girl for dinner. What’s for dinner? “It’s rice, baby. Baby, baby, it’s rice. Wild girl, shake your hair for me…”.
